PixelArtDisplay

We think screens should be fun again

PixelArtDisplay started as one of those projects that refuses to stay small. It began with a strip of addressable LEDs, an ESP32 and a stubborn idea: a display that was genuinely fun to have on a desk, not another black rectangle asking for your attention.

The first version was a mess of jumper wires and a hardcoded animation. Then we added a game engine. Then a microphone. Then a clock that people actually kept on their nightstands. By the time we had four modes running on a 24 × 25 grid, strangers were asking where they could buy one.

So we made it a product. Same grid, same 600 pixels, same open-minded approach to what you do with it — now with a real enclosure, a wireless controller, safe over-the-air updates and a warranty.

How we build

Four rules

Local first

Everything happens on your network. No cloud relay, no account, no vendor lock-in. If our servers disappeared tomorrow, your panel would keep working exactly as it does today.

Finished, not a kit

Plenty of panels ship as a board and a promise. We ship software that's already done: modes that look good, an interface that works, updates that can't brick the device.

Yours to modify

The firmware is open and the API is documented. We'd rather you hack it than hide it — some of our best modes came from customers.

Honest specs

If a number is pending certification, we say pending. If something only works at 2.4 GHz, it's on the box. No asterisks.

Say hello

Press, wholesale, or just want to tell us what mode to build next? We read everything.
